The game was developed by Mojang Studios, the developer of Minecraft, in collaboration with Telltale Games. Music for the game was composed by Anadel, an atmospheric folk band based in California. The game follows the episodic format that Telltale has used for its previous titles, where player choices and actions have significant effects on later story elements. The story revolves around a player-created character named Jesse, originally an everyman. The player is able to collect items, solve puzzles, and talk to non-player characters though conversation trees to learn about the story and determine what to do next.
Like other Telltale Games, decisions that the player makes have an impact on story elements in future episodes. Minecraft Dungeons. Elements of crafting and building, central to Minecraft, are included in the gameplay, following a similar approach.
The game also mixes new characters with original themes to make an entirely original Minecraft experience. During the first four episodes, Jesse and their friends attempt to reassemble an old group of heroes known as the Order of the Stone to save the Overworld from the destructive Wither Storm.
The rest of the first season follows Jesse and their friends, now the new Order of the Stone. The main character, Jesse, is an inexperienced resident of said universe who sets out on a journey with their friends within the world of Minecraft to find The Order of the Stone Gabriel the Warrior, Ellegaard the Redstone Engineer, Magnus the Rogue, Soren the Architect and Ivor the Potion Brewer and Enchanter , five legendary adventurers who saved the Minecraft world.
The game includes settings that are normally difficult to access from within Minecraft, including the Nether and The End. Minecraft Windows 10 Edition. The player can customize Jesse, including choice of gender and skin tone. Jesse is voiced by Patton Oswalt if male and by Catherine Taber if female.
With more responsibilities and less time for adventure, old friendships have started to fade. This season introduces extra gameplay elements on top of the conversation trees and puzzle solving. I like the new combat, which adds a new dodge-roll evasive move, as well as a stamina meter, but I immediately enjoyed the free-build sequences.
These moments task Jesse with designing a structure on a three-dimensional grid. I loved that the custom structure I crafted early on reappeared multiple times throughout the season, but it feels like the story later shoehorned these free-build moments in with little hope for players to get a second glimpse of their creations. While the larger narrative is decent, drawn-out detours along the way sour the experience. One such detour that provides little payoff is stumbling upon a more primitive village where I need to compete in a menial competition to impress its locals. In addition, my least favorite episode of the season, Jailhouse Block, takes place almost entirely in a dull prison setting.
