The Benefits of Azure Virtual Desktop to Enable Your Remote Workforce.Teams for Virtualized Desktop Infrastructure - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Docs

All employees typically receive dedicated laptops from their employers, however, these setups aren't as safe as they may seem. Critical corporate data is housed on hundreds of different hard drives, creating a risk of data loss and theft even with malware protection software and stringent firewall protocols.

Every company laptop becomes an IT asset that is the responsibility of the organization. Each employee therefore needs IT support and management, which can be expensive and time-consuming. With the ability of employees to utilize personal laptops, VD can greatly lower expenses while avoiding all of these issues. Data protection is more important than ever, especially if it includes the personal data of employees.

Since the cost of paying for data leaks is often higher than the cost of implementing security protocols, businesses must be proactive rather than reactive. One of the most secure cloud platforms currently available, Azure Virtual Desktop assists enterprises in doing just that. Microsoft Azure hosts the remote servers for virtual desktops. They are therefore almost certainly more secure than on-premises systems, which are typically used by SMEs.

Employees cannot download data onto their devices using the computers, removing the risk of data exfiltration. Many firms have scalability and reliability problems with on-premise systems.

The scalability and affordability of a cloud-based remote framework like Windows Virtual Desktop are astounding. Regardless of location, the Azure-based solution guarantees that performance consistency is maintained.

In order to reduce latency, administrators construct desktop sessions at the data centers closest to end users. Many companies were forced to relocate their personnel to faraway locations during pandemics. Due to its simple and basic deployment capabilities, WVD was therefore an obvious choice, and it was the best and most efficient solution for all the feature requirements.

Four instances in which businesses might decide to implement distant IT infrastructures are listed below:. The personnel working remotely in times of emergency is one of the most frequent causes of growing IT costs. Additional licensing costs to provide security features and high demand for IT help might increase costs for your business when employees transition to new work environments.

Since there is no longer a need to purchase new licenses for each employee, virtual desktops can resolve all of these problems. Multiple dedicated profiles can be used by hundreds of employees on the same workstation, which lowers costs because the IT staff just needs to administer the central virtualization. A virtual desktop can aid in the effective administration of resources if your business is expanding quickly and you keep hiring new staff each month.

Each new hire needs to be handled carefully, and WVD can assist you in doing that. Additionally, the desktops offer a centralized management platform and a backend that is extremely extensible, both of which reduce downtime.

It is apparent to use the Windows Virtual Desktop if your company currently uses Microsoft products. Utilizing the VD has no additional expense because licensing is included with the original Microsoft bundle. The seamless integration of AVD with all other Microsoft products is an additional benefit, simplifying management and fostering uniformity throughout the entire platform. Additionally, SMEs stand to gain significantly from this endeavor since it spares them the headache of deploying pricey hardware instruments to suit their needs.

For many organizations that need their personnel to work remotely, hire outside consultants, or have changing demands for several PCs, the Azure Virtual Desktop solution offers an all-inclusive package offering. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. The default behaviour without setting any policies is that users are able to share their screen. The problem is that as the Remote Desktop client is set to use both screens, when they need to share content, both screen are shared and they can't choose to share only one.

After setting up a policy, the user still can't choose which screen to share in Teams on the WVD. Is there a solution for this yet? I have end user's that are having this exact issue. I don't think setting the policy in Teams management portal will make a difference. Content sharing just controls permissions from what it looks like. And the Display configuration basically tells the RDP client software where to throw the display.

Nevertheless, they might work on this in a future release of the product. For now, we have to set the settings with "single display" and work from there. Dom Annicette. Appreciate the response and feedback. I completely forgot to come back to this post! I was looking around again today after one month, and saw that I posted something, and you actually responded. VM configuration varies based on the number of users and available physical server resources. For a non-persistent setup, the Teams desktop app must be installed per-machine to the golden image.

This ensures an efficient launch of the Teams app during a user session. Using Teams in a non-persistent setup also requires a profile-caching manager for efficient Teams runtime data synchronization. Efficient data synchronization ensures that the appropriate user-specific information such as a user's data, profile, or settings is cached during the user's session.

Make sure data in these two folders are synced:. A roaming folder or, if you are using folder redirection, a caching manager is required to ensure that the Teams app has the runtime data and files required to run the application. This is necessary to mitigate network latency issues or network glitches, which would otherwise cause application errors and a slow experience due to unavailable data and files.

There are a variety of caching manager solutions available, such as FSLogix. Consult your caching manager provider for specific configuration instructions. Excluding these items helps reduce the user caching size to further optimize your non-persistent setup.

Before you deploy Teams through Microsoft Apps for enterprise, you must first uninstall any pre-existing Teams apps if they were deployed using per-machine installation. Teams through Microsoft Apps for enterprise is installed per-user. Teams is also being added to existing installations of Microsoft Apps for enterprise. Microsoft Apps for enterprise doesn't support per-machine installations of Teams. To use per-machine installation, you must exclude Teams from Microsoft Apps for enterprise.

To learn more about Teams and Microsoft Apps for enterprise, see How to exclude Teams from new installations of Microsoft Apps for enterprise and Use Group Policy to control the installation of Teams.

At this point, the golden image setup is complete. This process adds a required registry key to the machine that lets the Teams installer know it is a VDI instance. Without it, the installer will error out, stating: "Installation has failed. Cannot install for all users when a VDI environment is not detected.

All users can then uninstall Teams if they have admin credentials. PowerShell script : You can use the Teams deployment cleanup PowerShell script to uninstall Teams and remove the Teams folder for a user. Run the script for each user profile in which Teams was installed on the computer.

There are a variety of virtualized setup configurations, each with a different focus for optimization. For example, a configuration might focus on user density. When planning, consider the following to help optimize your setup based on your organization's workload needs.

In addition to chat and collaboration, Teams on VDI with calling and meetings is available with supported virtualization provider platforms. Supported features are based on the WebRTC media stack and virtualization provider implementation.

The following diagram provides an overview of the architecture. If you currently run Teams without AV optimization in VDI and you use features that are not supported yet for optimization such as Give and take control when app sharing , you have to set virtualization provider policies to turn off Teams redirection.
